Can women visit the graves? Shaykh Bin Baz & Shaykh Fawzaan
Can women visit the Cemetery?
Answered by Shaykh Bin Baz
Question: The questioner asks: Is it permissible for me to visit the graves? Meaning, I visit my brother may Allah have mercy upon him. Since my brother passed away I always go visit him. I bring him some incense, I spend time with him, I ask Allah to have mercy upon him, and I always supplicate for him to enter paradise. Is this permissible?
Shaykh Bin Baz: This is not permissible. The Messenger cursed the women who visit the graves. Thus the women cannot visit the graves. Likewise going to the graves with perfume, all of this is sinful. Rather supplicate for him from within the home. Supplicate for him from your home while you are prostrating. Ask Allah to have mercy upon him, and give charity on his behalf. As for visiting the graves, no; the women cannot visit the graves. It is upon you to repent from what you have done, it is upon you to repent from your previous action. And supplicate for him from your home; and all praises belong to Allah.

Can women visit the graves?
Answered by Shaykh Fawzan
Question: The questioner says: As it relates to visiting the grave of my father and supplicating for him, then it is from our practice that we go visit him, and supplicate for him and place some branches on his grave.
Shaykh Fawzan: All of this is not permissible. First, the women visiting the graves is not permissible because the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah are upon him, cursed the women who visit the graves, those who take the graves as places of worship and places lights on them. Thus the women cannot visit the graves. It is also not permissible to place branches on the graves because this is an innovation that could lead to polytheism.
